Former Chelsea star Yuri Zhirkov has hailed his former side and revealed that they are currently building a top attacking team that will be able to come against any opposition side both in the Premier League and in Europe.

The former Blues star spent part of his career at Stamford Bridge and even though his time with the Blues did not go as he would have hoped for, he says he still maintains some level of respect for the London outfit and still wishes he had a better career at Stamford Bridge.

The former Russia international star has recently conducted a squad assessment of the current Chelsea players and says that they already have a top squad and they have a lot of attacking players in the team presently. Zhirkov said he followed Chelsea last season after the appointment of Frank Lampard, his former teammate at the club, and admired how the former manager was bold enough to make big-money signings at the end of last season.

However, those signings were not able to gel quickly, and it cost Lampard his job. The former midfielder signed the likes of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, and also handed Mason Mount a permanent position in the Chelsea team but they still needed more time to play at their best – a luxury club owner Roman Abramovic was not willing to spend.

After Lampard’s sacking, Thomas Tuchel was announced as the next manager and Zhirkov believes that even though bringing in Tuchel was a great move by Chelsea, they should have still exercised a little bit more patience with Lampard.

Speaking on the current Chelsea squad, Zhirkov said Pulisic, Werner, Ziyech, and Mount are outstanding players and they could play a role in helping the Blues winning the Champions League against Manchester City on the 29th of May.
