ATLETICO MADRID DEFEAT LOKOMOTIV MOSCOW

The Champions League group stage matchday two saw Russia outfit Lokomotiv Moscow take on Atletico Madrid in Moscow. The game which was billed to be a tough game for the Spanish side was gritty with several chances for both teams.

The Home team started better with Joao Mario creating a great chance that was spurned by his teammates. Atletico Madrid boss Simeone used an offensive lineup that contained Diego Costa, Morata and Joao Felix.

The Trio caused Lokomotiv problems with Diego Costa spurning the bet chance of the half when faced with an empty net. The former Chelsea forward blazed over the bar when it seemed easier to score.

Morata was also at the end of a sweeping move which was saved by the opposing stopper. From the proceedings of the first half it was only a matter of time before the goal would come despite both clubs ending the half goalless.

The second half had barely settled when Portuguese wonderkid Joao Felix scored his first goal in the Champions League. The youngster pounced on a pass and after initially shooting at the keeper. He was quick to make amends by slotting home the rebound to score the opener.

Atletico grew in strength with eh ever-impressive Thomas Partey pulling the strings in the midfield. The Ghanian got on the act towards the end of the game finishing off a sweeping move. Joao Felix got the ball from a corner and swept forward on a counter.

The Portuguese  ace found Diego Costa who made a square pass for Partey to tap into an empty net.  There was still time for Jan Oblak to make a double save as Atletico held on for a win and a clean sheet.  The Result sees Athletico move to second on the table behind Juventus who defeated Leverkusen by 3-0.
