BIRMINGHAM KEEN ON ASTON VILLA STAR

The Birmingham Mail claims that Aston Villa is eyeing a move on Aston Villa star Christopher Samba.

Steve Bruce is set to offer the player a deal as he has been on trial with Villa since the winter window. He has been training with the team and it seems Bruce would confirm him this summer.

Birmingham want to spoil the party by luring the player under Bruce’s nose, the report says. The club manager Harry Redknapp has worked with the player in question at Queen Park Rangers. As he wants to bolster his squad, he might offer the Congo international a deal.

Samba has played for Sedan in France, Hertha Berlin in Germany, The Rovers, Anzhi and even Russian giants Dynamo Moscow. Samba played in Greece for Panathinaikos after his stint with QPR. The 34-year old has impressive physical power that come handy in defensive duties. His 6’4’’ frame helps him in centre half role as he battle for aerial balls.

The experienced and well travelled player could provide the Birmingham City setup with some defensive cover. And his 170 Premier League appearances would prove useful at some point. Their rivals Aston Villa have done a decent job of helping him keep fit so that should not be much of a worry.

Redknapp would have to move fast to lure the star from Bruce and the rest at Villa Park.
